Glass Fusing Workshop – 17/10/2015

Advanced Glass Fusing Workshop on the 17th October 2015

Glass designer & maker Paul Floyd will lead afternoon sessions on glass fusing. The intermediate/advanced workshop will allow you to explore the techniques of fused glass as a creative medium.  Within the workshop you will build on your skills with cutting glass to a pattern and working with coloured sheet glass, frits and powders.

You will create an original piece of glasswork and can make either a panel or a medium-sized round/square bowl 20cm diameter.  Only 4 people per workshop for maximum individual attention.

Stained Glass Course – 10 Week 23/09/2015

Stained Glass Course: Day Class

Glass designer & maker Paul Floyd will lead classes on stained glass.  On the course you will learn the craft of stained glass and will design & make your own colourful leaded panel.  This course is suitable for complete beginners or intermediate students that would like to build on their previous skills and knowledge.

Students will learn to prepare a design, cut glass to a pattern, cut & shape the lead for the glass, solder, cement and polish the finished glass panel.

All tools are provided for the course and includes materials for a stained glass panel up to 35cm x 35cm.  Only 4 people per workshop for maximum individual attention.

Stained Glass Day Workshop 04/07/2015

Stained Glass Day Course – Saturday 4th July 2015

Glass designer & maker Paul Floyd will lead a day class on stained glass.  This day course is suitable for beginners and is an introduction to the craft of stained glass.

Students will look at designs, choose glass, learn how to cut glass to a pattern and shape the lead to make their own colourful panel.

All tools are provided and the course includes materials for a stained glass panel up to 20cm x 20cm.  Only 4 people per workshop for maximum individual attention.

Participant Information:

Aprons will be provided, please wear older clothes and no open-toe shoes.  This course involves working with lead and unfortunately we recommend that pregnant & nursing mothers do not attend.

Throughout the day there will be lunch and tea breaks.  Lunch, drinks and a wonderful selection of cakes can be obtained from the Ruskin Glass Centre Organic Café.  Café opens Monday to Saturday between 9:00am till 3:00pm.

Bruntnell-Astley Contemporary Glass Exhibition

Bruntnell-Astley presents a ‘Pop-Up’ Gallery of Contemporary glasswork on the 25th till 31st May 2015. 

This exhibition of the finest names in Contemporary Glass will be held in Kingswinford Methodist Church, Kingswinford (near Broadfield House Glass Museum) and will be running alongside the ‘International Festival of Glass Weekend’.

Pop-Up Exhibition Bruntnell Astley

THIS exhibition, organised by Bruntnell-Astley, provides a showcase for a number of glass artists, who, although united by medium, make stylistically diverse work through the use of a range of personal skills and approaches.  The works themselves demonstrate the broad scope of glass forming and decorating techniques and processes, including blowing, kiln-casting, lamp-working, slumping and fusing for shaping the glass, to enamelling, sandblasting and engraving to decorate it.  ‘Editorial from Craft Arts International 2015 ‘

Formal Unveiling of the Sankey House Glass

Victorian Stained Glass Restoration

Amblecote History Society will be holding the official unveiling of the ‘Sankey House Glass’ on Thursday evening of the 14th May 2015.  Local historian and author Graham Fisher MBE will be unveiling the heritage Victorian glass, which will then be on permanent display at the Webb Corbett Visitor Centre for all to see.

The ‘Sankey House Glass’ is part of the local history, which was saved from the Victorian Sankey House, Amblecote High Street, which was also known as the Stourbridge Dance School before the property was demolished.  The glass which is a series of 3 large cut-glass panels and smaller stained & cut-glass decorative panels, will form a ‘New Window’ within the Visitor Centre.  With funding from Dudley Council and the expert craftsmanship and skill of glass artist Paul Floyd and Creative Woodworker Jamie Hubbard, this heritage glass has been saved for posterity.

The Webb Corbett Visitor Centre at the Glasshouse in Amblecote, is open from 10am till 4pm Tuesday to Saturday.  Ian Dury the Heritage Officer can be contacted on telephone 01384 399419 for further information.
