Glass Fusing Workshop – 14/10/2017

Advanced Glass Fusing Workshop on the 14th October 2017

Glass designer & maker Paul Floyd will lead afternoon sessions on glass fusing. The intermediate/advanced workshop will allow you to explore the techniques of fused glass as a creative medium.  Within the workshop you will build on your skills with cutting glass to a pattern and working with coloured sheet glass, frits and powders.

You will create an original piece of glasswork and can make either a panel or a medium-sized round/square bowl 20cm diameter.  Only 4 people per workshop for maximum individual attention.

  • Date: Saturday 14th October 2017
  • Time: 1:30pm till 5:30pm
  • Costs: £45 (includes all materials and fusing)

1930’s Stained Glass Windows Survey

The studio has recently been to survey a series of 1930’s stained glass windows that will need some repairs and restoration over the coming months.  Transparent Glass Studio Stained Glass Restoration 01

Bay Window – leaded lights and stained glass transoms

The stained glass and leaded panels are in original metal frames, which also need some restoration in areas.  The surrounding woodwork frames are in amazing condition and a testimony to the materials used and also the regular maintenance since they were fitted.

The stained glass has been designed throughout the house with some amazing patterns, in-keeping with the time, but also has an Arts & Crafts feel to some of the elements.  The stained glass contains some beautiful colours and a lot within the patterns are handmade mouthblown colours.  It really is a privilege to view these wonderful windows and house.

Glass Course – 8 Weeks – Start: 12/09/2017

Glass Course: Day Class

Glass designer & maker Paul Floyd will lead open classes in glass making.  The course has been set-up to enable intermediate and advanced students to work on either a stained glass panel or a series of fused glass projects of their own design.  Students should have completed either a beginners stained glass workshop or a beginners fused glass workskop previously and would like to build on their previous skills, knowledge and creativity.  Paul Floyd will offer guidance with your projects in a friendly and supportive workshop.

This is a flexible course and if 8 weeks is too long for your project, then a minimum block of 4 weeks can also be booked.  All hand tools are provided for the course.

Materials & Kiln-Firing Costs are extra and can be discussed prior to start of course.  A Typical example of materials & kiln-firing costs: Stained Glass Panel – 35cm x 35cm = £25 and Fused Glass Panel – 30cm x 30cm = £25.  The kiln can also be hired by arrangement for additional firings and extra materials bought as and when needed.

Only 4 people per workshop for maximum individual attention.

Aprons will be provided, please wear older clothes and no open-toe shoes.  If this course involves working with lead, unfortunately we recommend that pregnant & nursing mothers do not attend.

Glass for Good

Welcome to the 7th International Festival of Glass. Since its inception in 2004 the Festival’s aim has been to celebrate and showcase the skill and innovation of the glass industry and makers, both historic and contemporary, local and international.

We look forward to meeting you in Stourbridge this August bank holiday to celebrate one of the most fascinating and diverse art forms around. With open studios, demonstrations, presentations, performances, street theatre, storytelling, narrowboat rides and glass taster sessions, there with plenty of opportunities for you to get involved and have fun.
