International Festival of Glass 2017

Welcome to the 7th International Festival of Glass; a celebration of the work and innovation of the glass industry.  The Festival of Glass will take place across venues in Stourbridge Glass Quarter.

We are busy planning an exciting mix of lectures, workshops, exhibitions, taster sessions and family activities, as well as fantastic food and drink across the individual festival sites.

The International Festival of Glass’ diverse programme will inspire and amaze artists, glass enthusiasts and the public alike. The Festival is unique in its breadth and accessibility for all levels of interest and expertise. Watch, listen or make – the Festival promises a fun-filled, educational visit to the Stourbridge Glass Quarter.

Visit and enjoy have-a-go sessions, exhibitions, evening events, street entertainment, family activities, demonstrations, heritage walks, retail fairs and much more. A programme will be published in May to help you get the most out of your trip.

Beginners Fused Glass Workshop – 22/07/2017

Beginners Fused Glass Workshop on the 22nd July 2017

Glass designer & maker Paul Floyd will lead afternoon sessions on glass fusing. Teaching the basics of fusing, cutting glass to a pattern and working with coloured sheet glass, frits and powders. You will create an original piece of glasswork and make your own fused glass light-catcher. Only 4 people per workshop for maximum individual attention.

  • Date: Saturday 22nd July 2017

Victorian Stained Glass Bay Window Restoration

Just before Easter the studio completed a repair and restoration of four fantastic Victorian stained glass bay window panels.  There were several breaks within the borders that needed replacing with restoration glass to match and new border leads were needed across the four panels.  The stained glass windows were then cleaned and polished to bring them back to their former glory.

Such a great feature for the house that is worth all the attention they needed, with some wonderful handmade spun rondels and coloured textured glass.  The stained glass windows have now be taken to the glazier for encapsulating into double glazed units and will then be installed into new wooden window frames.

The studio recently completed a repair and part restoration of two reclaimed church stained glass windows.  The panels are coloured glass diamond patterns, with a red glass border.  The glass diamonds have a great random texture to the different tints of colours greens, clears and ambers.

Some repairs to the red border glass was needed and the 2 panels have had a new leaded border and reinforcement for strengthening.

Victorian Stained Glass Toplight

The studio has been working on designing and making a period Victorian Stained Glass toplight window.  Using a traditional Victorian pattern and glass colours, the new window has been made to fit the bespoke size of the aperture above the door and is more in-keeping with the age of the house.

The window has now been fitted above the customers front door in Stourbridge.

Glass Fusing Workshop – 15/07/2017

Intermediate/Advanced Glass Fusing Workshop on the 15th July 2017

Glass designer & maker Paul Floyd will lead afternoon sessions on glass fusing. The intermediate/advanced workshop will allow you to explore the techniques of fused glass as a creative medium.  Within the workshop you will build on your skills with cutting glass to a pattern and working with coloured sheet glass, frits and powders.

You will create an original piece of glasswork and can make either a panel or a medium-sized round/square bowl 20cm diameter.  Only 4 people per workshop for maximum individual attention.

  • Date: Saturday 15th July 2017
  • Time: 1:30pm till 5:30pm
